96 participants, from as many as 13 industries, came from different parts of India for the Effective Living and Leadership program for Industries at Asia Plateau from February 13 to 17, 2007.
Some participants promised to control their anger and ego. Others pledged not to over-speed whilst driving to work and some were determined to take part in household chores and assist their wives.
These decisions were shared by some of the 96 participants, who came from different parts of India for the Effective Living and Leadership program for Industries. Two of them represented Nokia, a company that was participating for the first time at Asia Plateau.
Admittedly, at the beginning of the program, the participants were not very comfortable with the ideas of Initiatives of Change (IofC). However, later in the program most of them became more positive in their attitude towards absolute moral standards of purity, honesty, unselfishness and love.
When asked how one can make a difference, one of the participants made a decision not to indulge in wine anymore.
Another from Jamshedpur shared in a very poetic way, "Har ped ki kismat mein, mayasar nahin patthar; patthar vahi khatein hain, jo fal se lade hote hain." (People throw stones at a tree which has fruit and the tree suffers this despite sacrificing its fruit to us.) In other words, whoever wants to live a life with values has to be ready to suffer hardship as this not an easy journey.
One participant, inspired by the "India I Care" workshop, committed himself to keeping his surroundings clean by collecting litter. Another shared his decision to stop doing things that he had hidden from his wife and family members.
In the mornings the participants practiced Yoga and breathing techniques. Which many decided to implement into their daily routines.
During the cultural evening, poems and skits reflected what they had learned within the five-day period. One play for instance encouraged people to come to Asia Plateau at least once in their lifetime to learn how to make a difference.
